Meditations by Marcus

“You have power over your mind - not outside events.
Realize this, and you will find strength.”

It has become ever more important, as I labour through life, to find moments of solitude and reflection on who I am, and how to live a good life.  It was about a year ago now, that a good friend of mine introduced me to this book, entitled Meditations. The journey I have embarked on with the small black book has allowed me to put it in the hands of many other young officers as they start to navigate the waters of leadership, mentorship and the cultivation of their own path in life.  This small book, authored by Marcus Aurelius has been that locket, which has permitted me to find that time and personal space to strengthen the power of my own mind, and dive into the teaching of the great philosophers.

Chapter 6 (pictured here) explores the universe’s perfect balance of good and evil, and that it makes no difference in the end because individuals’ courses of action, based on it are constant.  We are all working together to one end, and each man does his own path in life.  What we must remember above all else is to live in truth and justice and considerate of the virtues of life.

The pages within give me much to think about, digress and ponder as I go through my own daily advocations, and I hope that as I reflect upon the teaching, I am strengthening my mind and give gratitude to the great man, who put this book in my hand.
