Happy Pumpkins
Happy Little pumpkins, growing big and thick. Wondering which one, will they choose to pick. Happy little pumpkins, wondering what they will be. Pie, Bread, or cookies, or a Jack-o-Lantern for me!
It’s been a tradition since I was a child, to carve a pumpkin and put it outside on the porch for all-hallows eve. We may not get as creative in decorating the house for Halloween as my parents did when I was a kid. I can remember some elaborate house decorations that included tombstones and wooden caskets on the lawn in my younger years. Our lack of design details for this holiday might partly be, because we don’t have kids and always seem to be on the go. But we do pull out the carving sets once a year to turn a pumpkin into a Jack-o-Lantern for an evening of sugar and scary movies.
I remember as a child, going around with a pillowcase, banging on doors and saying the magical words which aided in gathering candy. Then heading back home for the routine dumping it out on the floor, so mom could inspect it all before we started eating it. Oh, what great fun!
This year we picked happy and scary as faces for our pumpkins, which will greet the ghouls, goblins, princesses, and superheroes, who will start to arrive shortly. My biggest fear tonight is always, do I have enough candy?
Happy Halloween everyone, and please watch for the little ones crossing the road if you’re out driving tonight. ….
…… I must go now, I hear voices at the door.
