He’s Always Got My Back
This week’s image, owes its credit not to my phone, but that of my wonderful spouse and partner Jesse. It was actually taken during the 100th Anniversary, Warriors Day parade in Toronto that we were both attending, and sent in a group chat to our friends. The reason, for its selection this week is because there is a more prevalent symbolic metaphor behind this picture than many may think. It is actually what is not seen in the picture which is important; our families, who sit close by us and who are our support mechanism, always having our backs, as we perform our duties within the Canadian Forces. I can’t count how many times Jesse has joined along on a weekend to attend a function because I need to be there or changed plans because I need to be away for something. Yet in his own calm and quiet way he makes it all ok as if it was no bother to him at all. I am blessed to have such a caring, compassionate spouse, who knows that my career in the forces is something that affects us both and is part of our life.
It is at moments like this, that I am reminded of a quote by Jonathan Muncy Storm which reads;
“In your dark days, just turn around, and I will be there. And maybe I won’t have any more light to give than what you already have. But I will take your hand, and we will find the light together.”
I can only hope that my colleagues, and those who serve with me, have such an amazing person who always has there back.
