Its just a number right?
Arthur Schopenhauer said “the first forty years of live give us the text; the next thirty supply the commentary”. 2022 is to be a year for the history books, for a number of reasons. This includes the platinum jubilee year of Queen Elizabeth the Second; the year that saw us rise from the ashes of the COVID 19 pandemic; and for me personally it will signal the end of my 30’s and the start of a new decade of life as I turn 40 this June.
It’s somewhat hard to believe that I have roomed this planet for almost 40 years. As I look back, even on just these past 10 years. There is so many aspects to be proud of, and happy memories that have been made along the way. I feel like my thirties were a time that allowed me to grow as man, and define what mark I true want to have on the world. There have been many accomplishments up to the end of this chapter that I am blest to have been part of. But I also know there is a erring for me to want to do more with my life. The bucket list is far from complete, and as I edge closer to the start of my 40s. I reflect on the matter that we only exist for such a short period of time, to accomplish all which we are set out to do.
I also know there is a part of me which struggles immensely with this chapter ending, and the new one beginning. There is not anything I can do to stop it from happening that is how time work. It must move forward, and carries us with it into the future. The struggles are coming to realize that my youth is now behind me, and that I am now entering middle age. I do look forward to what is to come during my dashing 40’s. The foundation has been set, and I am indeed the architect of the moments that lay ahead.
It is important to celebrate those moment and milestones in one’s life. So, I have taken it upon myself (as anyone can guess) to ensure that 40 is celebrated in a customary way which I think is fitting to who I am. I am throwing my own 40th birthday party, and here is the save the date which was sent out to family and close friends who will join in the celebration. Indeed it was designed to look like a telegram, with some small details that may not be picked up on No 40, charge of 19.82. Although my official birthday will take place a few days prior to the celebration, I am very much looking forward to sharing the special time with those who are close to me.
