Homes for Hero’s

June is my birthday month and this one is a bit more significant and extra special for me, as I am turn 40 years old.  This year I have one wish… and unlike a regular birthday wish which is a secret, the only way for this one to come true is to tell you about it. Because in order to see my 2022 birthday wish come true, you have to be part of it!

This year’s birthday wish, is for both you and me, to make a positive difference in the word, and join together in donating to my charity of choice which is  Homes for Hero’s.  Rather than gifts, cards, and birthday messages, I think the best birthday present would be to help out this amazing organization and be part of something bigger than you and I can ever comprehend.

Why Homes for Hero’s

I think it’s important to share why this charity is so important. As you know for the past 21 years, I have been a Reserve Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces and have chosen to make it my primary career. It has afforded me my greatest memories; been an adventure of a lifetime and I have never been prouder to get up every day and put on this country’s uniform.  That is my story as I live it now, and so many others before me have had the same experiences. But life sometimes throws unexpected curve balls, situations change for some as they transition from being a uniformed member to a veteran, and the return to civilian life after a long honorable career can be hard.  For more than 5,000 veterans their story has changed the course and for several reasons, they have become homeless and living on the streets somewhere in Canada. These veterans, who have put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms, now need our help to get them back on their feet.

Homes for Hero’s Foundation was developed in response to the growing number of military veterans who are facing a crisis as they return to civilian life and find themselves on a path to homelessness. To date, they have had the opportunity to build two small veterans’ villages in Calgary and Edmonton and are now working towards a third in Kingston Ontario. The funds raised as part of my birthday campaign will be directed towards this project, and you can learn so much about this foundation by visiting its website.
