Welcome to Baltimore Oct 10
This trip has been a long time coming, but we finally got a chance to travel down to Baltimore Maryland to see Jamie and Rebecca. The wheels were set in motion when they both came up in June for my birthday, and we chatted about a pending visit to them.
Rather than flying, we thought it might be nice to hit the open roads and drive down. Departing Thursday, we made our way down to Pennsylvania and stayed overnight, and toured Gettysburg on Friday which I posted about last week. We then continued the short drive into Baltimore Maryland and checked into our hotel for the next few days.
It was so nice to finally get to see Jamie and Rebecca’s beautiful house. They have a great sense of style, and we love what they have done with the place. We didn’t have much on our bucket list of things we wanted to do while there, other than play tourist, see the sights, and enjoy the Maryland culture.
Jamie and Rebecca played great host for the weekend and even got us into Washington DC, for some American history (I really wanted to see the first flag). There were many highlights along the way, but a few of them stood out amongst the rest. Dinner at the famous Owl Bar, an old speakeasy from prohibition days in a famous hotel. Going to a speakeasy secret bar (b-side cocktails), where you needed to put a coin in a jukebox for the door to open. Touring the gated cemetery where John Wilks Booth and Elizabeth Bonaparte are buried, and oysters (of course). We always seemed to be on the go, but it was so much fun, and we got to see so much of where they live. Like any mini vacation, lots of food, lots… lots of cocktails and great laughs.
It’s been a few days since we got home, and we are still talking about the trip and how much fun we had, and how great it was to see my sister. I got a long list of gins to now try, courtesy of Dutch Courage (thank you for letting me have one of your Gin Menus). We really can’t thank Jamie and Rebecca enough for their hospitality, and when we go back next time I want to check out the Elk Room and the Ministry of Brewing
Below are a few more pictures from the trip.
