Plant a Tree for the Jubilee
was just celebrated this past weekend, and Queen Elizabeth the Seconds, Platinum Jubilee. With all these celebrations afoot, I could not pass up the chance to bring them both together in a gift, to friends, and family who attended my birthday celebrations at the Hamilton Club.
I shared with those who gathered at the party, one of my earliest memories, of two blue spruce trees which stood a the end of my grandparent’s front yard in Georgetown Ontario. As I grew up, they too grew to be huge trees and I was always fascinated by their perfect, peaceful beauty. It also just so happens that in Greek mythology, the spruce tree is “the tree of birth”. That memory became even more of a legacy when guests were given the task of taking a blue spruce sapling home with them and plant it, as part of the Queens Green Canopy, so that in the years to come, when I visit with them, we will stand beside its budding blue needles in awe and remind ourselves of the happy memories we have shared together.
The Queens Green Canopy is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”
